April Member of the Month: Kristin Samson

Kristin Samson joined the Asian Corporate and Entrepreneur Leaders with a simple desire to partake in its mentorship program in 2013, but today, her strong impact on incoming mentors and mentees demands to be felt. With over three years of continuous dedication to the Mentorship Committee, Samson is ACEL's April Committee of the Month.

Through her personal dedication to the community, Samson is already an inspiration to Arizonan leaders as a whole. She is a Young Professional Council member at UMOM and a Valley Leadership Class 37 alumna. She is the incoming head coach (president) of the Suns Charities 88 Board. On top of that, she works professionally as a sales rep for Ernest Packaging Solutions.

Despite the weight of her heavy involvement throughout the Valley, Samson still leads ACEL with poise and ease as a liaison and incoming co-chair for the Mentorship Committee -- a prominent position within a program that she calls a catalyst in her life.

Samson said her favorite part of being on the committee is the exposure she has to mentors within it, and being able to explore Arizona through different perspectives.

"It's just a reminder of the phenomenal people we have here in Arizona," Samson said. "Had I not been a part of this committee, I would not have met these phenomenal people."

For rising leaders who aspire to make a difference, Samson suggests being open to having conversations and meetups with people outside one's circle, while still honing in on true passions.

"It's really easy to get busy and spread thin," Samson said. "Say yes to the things that matter most to you so you can be most successful in those areas."

An expert in multicultural and diversity affairs, Bill Imada is the founder and chairman of IW Group, a minority-owned advertising, marketing and communications agency specializing in multicultural and millennial markets.

Mr. Imada has represented top domestic and global companies for over 25 years. These companies include American Airlines, Coca-Cola, General Motors Walt Disney Imagineering and Verizon — and that’s to name a few. His areas of expertise include multicultural communications, marketing, branding, strategic public relations and crisis management. Many of these skills feed into his cross-cultural training and engagement talents, as well as his focus on diversity and inclusion initiatives.

A pillar of the Asian American community, Mr. Imada serves on more than seven boards and advisory councils. His extensive board service reaches the National Association of Asian American Professionals (NAAAP), OCA National, the National PBS Board of Directors, the Advertising Educational Foundation and beyond.

Mr. Imada’s exceptional dedication to the Asian American community was recognized by The White House and he was invited to meet President Barack Obama with 12 other Asian American/Pacific Islander leaders. He was later appointed to President Obama’s Advisory Commission on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders.

Mr. Imada is passionate about diversity and engagement, and has acted as a change agent in shaping the discussion on multigenerational communication. In 2016, he established the National Millennial Community — one of three organizations he co-founded — to offer students and alumni a voice on GenY matters, while breaking negative stereotypes that often define millennials in the U.S. The same year, he earned ADCOLOR’s Lifetime Achievement Award for promoting diversity in advertising.
